Banksia Grove PS is the only school in the Perth metro area that offers Moorditj Yarning to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students hosted by Relationships Australia. This program is delivered weekly within our school, and aims to assist and encourage our Aboriginal students to become proud Aboriginal people with a strong understanding of their cultural background. As part of our school's commitment to reconciliation, we have created a 10 week 'Sharing Kaadadjiny ' (Kaadadjiny means Knowledge in the Noongar language) program that is delivered to all students in Year 3. The students learn about Aboriginal culture, language and history while sharing their own cultural backgrounds and knowledge. Both of these programs are supported and/or delivered by our full-time Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer, Tamara Lewis.
